Fountain of Youth Dentures

Dr. Wayne Sutton of Sonoma Smiles is pleased to offer patients that need dentures a breakthrough technology called the Fountain of Youth® Dentures. Fountain of Youth, or FOY, dentures are uniquely designed to fit, feel and function better than traditional dentures. As an added benefit, they also soften or minimize some of the common signs of aging for more youthful facial contours. Read on as Dr. Sutton explains what you should know about this exciting technology.

How Fountain of Youth Dentures Work

Before you learn the incredible benefits of FOY dentures, it’s important to have a basic understanding of the effects of tooth loss. When a tooth falls out or is extracted, the underlying supporting bone starts to shrink because it no longer receives stimulation from the forces of chewing and biting. As the jawbone deteriorates, it can give the face a sunken-in, hollow or saggy appearance.

Traditional dentures rest on top of the gums without restoring the teeth to the proper height or proportion. Because of this, the jawbone still does not receive the stimulation it needs to thrive, and it can further deteriorate. Over time, facial folds, jowls and excess skin on the neck can appear, making the entire face look prematurely aged.

Fountain of Youth dentures are designed to restore teeth to their original height in a natural, youthful position to keep the jawbone stimulated and maintain normal facial contours. With an improved fit for easier speech, chewing and smiling, FOY dentures evenly distribute force on the jawbone, which can help reduce jawbone loss. Not only are the FOY dentures themselves aesthetically pleasing, but thanks to their design and construction, they can minimize some of the signs of aging that would normally occur with traditional denture use. By filling out the cheeks and lips, FOY dentures provide what some patients refer to as a “non-surgical facelift.”

FOY dentures are specifically designed based on concepts of neuromuscular dentistry, which is the study of the mouth as a whole system (including muscles, bones and nerves). Because dentures are held in place by the muscles of the jaw, it is extremely important to understand how those muscles work in order to create great dentures. FOY dentures look attractive, feel great and function optimally.
